What to record in a vehicle service history
A short checklist of details worth keeping every time your vehicle is serviced or repaired.
A good service history answers three questions quickly: what was done, when, and at what odometer reading. Without those three details a paper bill is hard to use later.
Details worth keeping
Write down the date, the odometer reading, the workshop, a short description of the work, the parts replaced and the total cost. If the workshop gives a warranty on parts or labour, note that too.
Keep it with the vehicle, not the glovebox
Paper bills fade and go missing. A digital record that sits next to your fuel and expense entries makes it easy to see what a vehicle has really cost to run, and to show a complete history if you sell it.
